“THERE IS ALWAYS POISON ON THE LIPS OF ART” -Death Anniversary of Legend Naeem Hashmi(27 April)

Legend Naeem Hashmi was a famous versatile actor, writer, poet, producer, and director in Pakistan. He was famous for his variety roles the late 1940s and 1950s, but he later took character roles in over 100 films. His naats, or praises said for the Islamic prophet Muhammad also earned him much fame. Many of his films, such as the banned Inqalab-e-Kashmir, touched upon social and national issues.

Naeem Hashmi was not only an actor but also a very much respected poet and writer. He was poet of the all time best and famous film Naat "Shah-e-Madina, Yasrib ke wali...". (Some sources claim that this Naat was written by Tanvir Naqvi). Naeem Hashmi was introduced in Indian film "Chandni Chowk" in 1946 which was produed in Calcutta.

Naeem Hashmi produced the first ever short feature film "Inqala-e-Kashmir" in 1948 in Pakistan, but this film was banned after only one show in Ritz cinema Lahore. A patriotic song from this film "Salam a Qaid-e-Azam, teri azmat ko salam, tera Parcham hai tabinda, tera pecham hai zinda..." was a National Anthem of Pakistan before 1954 which was also written by Naeem Hashmi and sung by Saghar Siddiqi. Reportedly, Naeem Hashmi produced the first ever Stage play "Shadi" in Odeon cinema Lahore in 1948. His acting was depiction of natural and real character of the story. He has immense talent to portray the characters as he became an embodiment to the real world. His exposition of characters, has multi-dimensional pursuit, as happened in Shakespearean drama. He is a wonderful critic of the age, a representative of the wretched class of the society , even if he performed a role of a villain. His nationalistic approach is hardly found in any actor of sub-continent , which personified his talent and passionate love for revivalism of Islamic glory. His Love of Holy Prophet (PBUH), is an example for whole nation, which showed unprecedented Submissive Love for the best Creation (PBUH) of the universe.

Naeem Hashmi had the privilege to work with giants of the biggest film industry in the world, the Indian film industry, well before Partition. He started his long journey in the film industry from Calcutta before creation of Pakistan. Chandani Chowk was his first movie which was produced by none other than the iconic Indian film producer BR Chopra and directed by Tahkur Himat Singh.

Hashmi s female lead artist was Erica, who was later introduced with the name of Rukhshi in Pakistan after Partition. She is still alive. His famous quotation “THERE IS ALWAYS POISON ON THE LIPS OF ART” , reminds the sacrifice of famous philosopher Socrates. Naeem Hashmi played role of Principal protagonist in at least seven PTV dramas, those included; drams of Nusrat Thaker, Munno Bhai and Yawar Hayat.

After creation of Pakistan, Naeem Hashmi made Inqalab-e-Kashmir in 1948, which was confiscated due to government s policies. It was the Inqalab-e-Kashmir for which Naeem Hashmi, Fida Shahjehanpuri and Sagar Siddique collectively wrote an anthem which was broadcasted as the national anthem till 1954. Naeem Hashmi appeared in 74 films, 37 Urdu and 37 Punjabi. He played the title role in Babul. Other famous films were Khatoon, Noor-e-Islam, Azma-e-Islam, Shama, Ayaz, Sher Jawan and Banarsi Thagg. He died on April 27, 1976.

THE 35th death anniversary of Naeem Hashmi, a versatile persnailty of Pakistani film industry and writer of most famous Naat Shah-e-Madina and co-writer of the first national anthem, will be observed on April 27. Khawer Naeem Hashmi, is son of legend Naeem Hashmi, who is a symbol of courage and struggle against dictatorship and a rising star of journalism, presently serving as Bureau Chief of GEO TV, Lahore.

Somali Pirates - Who is the patronizer?

Journalists For International Peace appealed to Secretary General Ban Ki Moon , to utilize all efforts to recover four Pakistanis including Captain Wasi , from the custody of Somalian Pirates . Though the Inter non-governmental organisations have announced financial support for the release of captain Wasi and other three Pakistani, But so far efforts bore no fruit. The pathetic attitude of government of Pakistan , made the family members of the kidnapees , so desperate that a teen age daughter of captain Wasi, Laila, had announced to sell out her livers for the release of her father.

Earlier, an Indian based non-governmental organisation announced financial support of US$ 0.5 million. Somali pirates demanded US$ 1.1 million of the release of Captain Wasi. Brother of Captain Wasi, Askari Hasan has said that US$ 0.6 million are still remaining to complete the demand of Somali pirates. He also paid thanks for the Indian NGO over the announcement of the support. The pathetic Pakistani Federal Ministers and political tycoons came to various private TV Channels and pledged to recover the Pakistanis after paying ransom from government exchequer , disappeared from the scene. Even Prime Minister Yusuf Raza has failed to understand the gravity of the situation .
Reportedly, the final dead line is just 11 days away to set release Capt. Wasi Hassan with his four Pakistani members and innocent Laila (daughter of Captain Wasi Hassan) is begging for money to release her father from the Somali Pirates.

“After repeated request to government; now family of Captain Wasi has started fund raising campaign on their own. But it is shameful that government has done nothing in this issue and all the political parties are ignoring this issue.” A member of Capt Wasi’s family orchestrated. “We are Muslim; but we forget that Muhammad Bin Qasim travelled thousand miles on the call of his religious sister to save her.” He added .

The daughter of Capt Wasi, innocent Laila questioned Rehman Malik that what he would do if his own son would have been kidnapped; but she couldn't still receive the reply from Rehman baba. I'm sure the reply will never come from him. They don't have the moral courage to face such innocent questions. The pirates have reduced their demand to $2.0 million and $1.5 million have already been arranged by shipping company and international NGO; but still there's a $500,000 difference. I'm sure that Almighty Allah will not disappoint the innocent Laila and she will again see her father safe and sound.

Earlier, Sixteen Pakistanis and two Iranians have been freed from Somali pirates after the Danish Navy carried out an air-raid operation to rescue the Pakistani hostages who have been in the custody of Somali pirates since last year.

On April 2, the Danish Navy’s rescue team was attacked by open fire by the pirates after which the rescue team responded through fire and conquered the ship and its crew. The team boarded the vessel off Somalia's coast targeting an Iranian fishing boat that the pirates had used as a mothership. The rescue operation was backed by aircraft support.
The Danish Navy Spokesperson Kenneth Nielsen confirmed that 15 Somali pirates have been arrested from the ship out of which three received injuries in the operation. All of them are being held in custody of ESBERN SNARE, a Danish ship that is part of NATO’s counter-piracy force. The Danish Navy also recovered arms, weapons and other equipment from their possession.
The Captain of ESBERN SNARE has expressed great pleasure in being able to have the pakistani crew on his ship and participate in their joy. According to him, the freed hostages have been able to call their families from the Danish ship and ”are safely on their way back home”. Kenneth Nielsen has said that no decision has been taken about what to be done with those captured. The possibility of legal prosecutation is under review and the case has been handed over to the Attorney of Special International Crime. The freed hostages have on their own request been brought back to their own ships enabling them to sail back to their domestic areas. The wounded pirates are so far being treated by doctors, Nielsen added.
Four Pakistanis were onboard an Egyptian vessel that was captured by Somali pirates last year. Another ship from Malaysia carrying five Pakistanis was hijacked by the pirates on November 26, 2010 while two more Pakistanis were among hostages of a hijacked ship belonging to the UAE on March 26, 2010. The Companies that own these ships were negotiating with pirates to release their crew members since long but the pirates showed great stance and resistance in any compromise. In March 2011, the Somali pirates sent out the threat to kill four Pakistani hostages if $20 million was not paid to them in ransom by mid March.
In the past year, the Somali pirates have been responsible for numerous kidnapping cases of official crew members from companies around the world, including families traveling on sea. Their criminal activities have become of high concern among the international community and called out for concerted, global action against piracy on the high seas.
On 17 August 2009, NATO’s North Atlantic Council (NAC) approved the Alliance’s latest counter-piracy operation, Operation Ocean Shield. The operation is NATO’s contribution to the international efforts to combat piracy off the Horn of Africa and is focusing on at-sea counter-piracy operations. This operation builds on the experience gained during Operation Allied Protector and Operation Allied provider, NATO’s previous counter-piracy missions. Since 5 August 2010, Denmark has contributed with a support ship, ESBERN SNARE, including crew and a helicopter. Denmark previously contributed to Operation Ocean Shield with the support ship ABSALON from late January until the middle of March 2010.
Reportedly, Many pirates are 20–35 years old and come from the region of Puntland, in northeastern Somalia. The East African Seafarers' Association estimates that there are at least five pirate gangs and a total of 1,000 armed men. According to a BBC report, the pirates can be divided into three main categories:
Local Somali fishermen, considered the brains of the pirates' operations due to their skill and knowledge of the sea. Many think that foreign boats have no right to cruise next to the shore and destroy their boats.
Ex-militiamen, who previously fought for the local clan warlords, or ex-military from the former Barre government used as the muscle.
Technical experts, who operate equipment such as GPS devices.
According to Globalsecurity.org, there are four main groups operating off the Somali coast. The National Volunteer Coast Guard, commanded by Garaad Mohamed, is said to specialize in intercepting small boats and fishing vessels around Kismayo on the southern coast. The Marka group, under the command of Yusuf Mohammed Siad Inda'ade, is made up of several scattered and less organized groups operating around the town of Marka. The third significant pirate group is composed of traditional Somali fishermen operating around Puntland and referred to as the Puntland Group. The last set are the Somali Marines, reputed to be the most powerful and sophisticated of the pirate groups with a military structure, a fleet admiral, admiral, vice-admiral and a head of financial operations.
The conduct of a typical pirate attack has been analyzed and shows that while attacks can be expected at any time, most occur during the day, often in the early hours. They may involve two or more skiffs that can reach speeds of up to 25 knots. With the help of motherships that include captured fishing and merchant vessels the operating range of the skiffs has been increased far into the Indian Ocean. An attacked vessel is approached from quarter or stern, and RPGs and small arms are used to intimidate the operator to slow down and allow boarding. Light ladders are brought along to climb aboard. Pirates then will try and get control of the bridge to take operational control of the vessel.
There have been both positive and negative effects of the pirates' economic success. Local residents have complained that the presence of so many armed men makes them feel insecure, and that their free spending ways cause wild fluctuations in the local exchange rate. Others fault them for excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages and khat.
On the other hand, many other residents appreciate the rejuvenating effect that the pirates' on-shore spending and re-stocking has had on their impoverished towns, a presence which has often provided jobs and opportunity when there were none. Entire hamlets have in the process been transformed into veritable boomtowns, with local shop owners and other residents using their gains to purchase items such as generators -- "allowing full days of electricity, once an unimaginable luxury."
Local fishermen in the Malindi area of Kenya to the south have reported their largest catches in forty years, catching hundreds of kilos of fish and earning fifty times the average daily wage as a result. They attribute the recent abundance of marine stock to the pirates scaring away the foreign fishing trawlers, which it is claimed have for decades deprived local dhows of a livelihood. Marine biologists agree, saying that the indicators are that the local fishery is recovering because of the lack of commercial scale fishing.
The Somalian piracy appears to have a positive impact on the problem of overfishing in Somali waters by foreign vessels, as a comparison has been made with the situation in Tanzania further to the south, which suffers from the same problem, and also lacks the means to enforce the protection and regulation of its territorial waters. There, the catches have dropped to dramatic low levels, whereas in Somalia they have risen back to more acceptable levels since the beginning of the piracy.
The pirates get most of their weapons from Yemen, but a significant amount come from Mogadishu, Somalia's capital. Weapons dealers in the capital receive a deposit from a hawala dealer on behalf of the pirates and the weapons are then driven to Puntland where the pirates pay the balance.Various photographs of pirates in situ indicate that their weapons are predominantly AKMs, RPG-7s, AK47s, and semi-automatic pistols such as the TT-30. Additionally, given the particular origin of their weaponry, they are likely to have hand grenades such as the RGD-5 or F1. Al-Qaeda reportedly funded pirates with cash to purchase weapons. Osama bin-Laden supported these pirates in a video footage aired on al-Jazeera
The funding of piracy operations is now structured in a stock exchange, with investors buying and selling shares in upcoming attacks in a bourse in Harardhere. Pirates say ransom money is paid in large denomination US dollar bills. It is delivered to them in burlap sacks which are either dropped from helicopters or cased in waterproof suitcases loaded onto tiny skiffs. Ransom money has also been delivered to pirates via parachute, as happened in January 2009 when an orange container with $3 million cash inside it was dropped onto the deck of the supertanker MV Sirius Star to secure the release of ship and crew. To authenticate the banknotes, pirates use currency-counting machines, the same technology used at foreign exchange bureaus worldwide. According to one pirate, these machines are, in turn, purchased from business connections in Dubai, Djibouti, and other areas. Hostages seized by the pirates usually have to wait 45 days or more for the ships' owners to pay the ransom and secure their release.
Somali pirates allegedly get help from the Somali diaspora. Somali expatriates, including reputedly some among the 200,000 Somalis living in Canada, offer funds, equipment and information.
The purpose of piracy is to get ransom money for release of the crew, ship, and cargo. Pirates' income from ransom has been estimated to be about 39 million euro (about $58 million) in 2009 and $238 million in 2010. However, indirect costs of piracy are much higher and estimated to be between $7 to 12 billion as they also include insurance, naval support, legal proceedings, re-routing of slower ships, and individual protective steps taken by ship-owners. Further, piracy in Somalia leads to a decrease of revenue for Egypt as fewer ships use the Suez canal (estimated loss of about $642 million), impedes trade with a number of countries such as Kenya and Yemen, and is detrimental to tourism and fishing in the Seychelles.
A 2011 report published by Geopolicity Inc, investigated the causes and consequences of international piracy, with a particular focus on piracy emanating from Somalia. The report asserts that piracy is an emerging market in its own right, valued at between US$4.9-8.3 billion in 2010 alone, and it establishes, for the first time, an economic model for assessing the costs and benefits of international piracy. This model provides a comprehensive, independent framework of trend analysis, whilst also highlighting where the greatest rates of return on international counter pirate investment and policy are to be found across what Geopolicity term the ‘Pirate Value Chain.’ The report states that the number of pirates could double by 2016, increasing by 400 each year.

Journalists For International Peace appealed to Ban Kio Moon that UNO and NOTA forces must undertake concrete measures to clean the international sea from the Somalian Pirates and also unearth the hidden hand which patronises these pirates. “ USA and her allies are claiming to curb the terrorism from any country where it prevails, but the desperately fails to nab a group of pirates , which became a permanent threat to almost all the passenger or cargo ships”. Iftikhar Chaudri added in a statement here at JIP office. He also appealed to President Asif Ali Zadari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gillani to take a sympathetic view of the case and recover all detainee Pakistanis from the custody of the pirates.

Rape of The Nation

When all organs of the state lose their perpetual link with the citizens, then sovereignty and national interests can easily be compromised for the vested interests by the foreign or national elements. That Nation must be a deprived one and unfortunate, if all the people at the helm of affairs, at the state or government, won’t represent the legally justified, public aspirations.

Additional Session Judge Lahore court acquitted, the detained CIA agent, Remend Davis, who shot and killed two men, Faheem and Faizan, in Lahore on January 27 in what he said was a robbery attempt, of murder charges and released him on Wednesday after what some officials said was a deal that involved paying “blood money” to the victims’ families. While the third victim Obaid ur Rehman was totally ignored, even federal, provincial or security agencies failed to recover the vehicle , which crushed the motorcyclist to death, on the fateful day. First time, public come out against the ‘controversial decision’ of the lower court, after the much trumpeted campaign of ‘ independent Judiciary’. Coincidently, the day, when Remend Davis was released, was second anniversary, when Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary was restored after a Long March on 16th March 2009. Apparently Remend Davis’ release ends a weeks-long diplomatic confrontation that strained ties with Washington, which has leaned on Pakistan to crack down on militants who are making it hard for ‘trapped’ President Barack Obama to finally end the Afghan war. But the Public sentiments , at the surface, are inflamed and sudden surge, in already prevailing anti-USA feelings, is being observed in every city of Pakistan, personifying complete split between the views/opinion of state managers and the common citizens of Pakistan .

The way, which demonstrated an unprecedented haste ; how the incidents happened , leading to the release of Remend Davis by the lower court, posed multiple questions by the citizens, to the tycoons, sitting at the helm of all affairs, in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore. It is the first time in the history of Pakistan, that a criminal, who committed double murder in broad-day light, was acquitted by the court , even many legal formalities , in the general course of action, either fulfilled after his release or yet to be fulfilled. The lawyer of the victims was detained in the jail where the trial was being conducted. The Punjab Bar Council has decided to hold protest demonstration against the ‘ detention’ of the lawyer . After detention of the lawyer of the victims, Asad Manzoor, another lawyer Raja Irshad was ‘forcibly’ appeared on behalf of victims and pleaded the case, in front of the judge for securing ‘ release’ of Remend Davis. Raja Irshad , represents ISI , in the case of missing persons filed by Amina Janjua , whose husband was allegedly kidnapped by Pakistani intelligence agencies , few years back .

Talking to the media outside the Kot Lakhpat Jail, lawyer Asad alleged that the families of both victims were compelled to make a compromise and accept the Diyat amount. Their signatures were obtained on papers under coercion, he said. The security agencies had kept the families in detention since Tuesday night and he had no contact with them. He said as he reached the Kot Lakhpat Jail, he was stopped from entering the courtroom. “I was detained by Additional Superintendent Jail Ishtiaq Gil and not allowed to join the hearing. He kept me in illegal detention for four hours,” Asad added. He said he had asked the jail authorities to allow him to contact his clients but his request was declined by Superintendent Jail Mushtaq Awan. Asad further said even he was not permitted to leave the jail premises.

Reportedly, The Federal and provincial Ministries of law and Justice were hectically involved in pursuing, the members of bereaved families, in collaboration with Pakistan’s supreme intelligence agency ISI. The whole “legal drama’ was staged at the early hours in Kot Lakhpat jail where Judge Yusuf Aujla and the family members of the victims, eighteen in numbers, were called in the jail ; where allegedly Rana Sana Ullah , the provincial law minister , commanding the ‘low key, ‘Early Morning Jackal Operation’, as opposed to Brig Imtiaz and Maj aamir’s ‘Mid Night Jackal Operation’. Before the dawn prayers, the operation was completed , and families were kept in the ‘protective custody’, after declaring Remend Davis as free from all legal and ‘religious’ liabilities. Remend Davis was immediately taken out by a bullet proof car of US Consulate and sent to Islamabad by Motorway , where a special plane was waiting since last 24 hours, as US authorities already knew the ‘ release of Remend Davis’. Reportedly operation was directly handled by Capitol Hill.

Since then, all the 18 family members of victims were disappeared and reportedly they are taken to Dubai for onward journey to Washington DC for ‘better prosperous future’ . They were lured and forced to receive 200 Million Pak Rupees as ‘Blood Money’ according to Islamic Shariah Law , ‘Diyat’. The private TV Channels and independent analysts strongly criticized President Zardari , PM Gilliani, DG ISI and Chief Minister Punjab for collaborating with CIA to pave way a ‘safe exit’ of Remend Davis . The criticism intensified, when Remend was not challaned in the cases of willful spying against the national interests of Pakistan. Earlier, It was reported that security agencies recovered very sensitive spying equipment, sensitive documents and maps, tens of fake ID cards and certain proofs that he was directly or indirectly involved in bomb blasts in various cities of Pakistan .

Unfortunately, the Secret Act 1923, was not invoked against the apparently ‘ proved ‘ corroboratory evidences, meant for any court of law. “ I wanted to wear uniform while going for protest at Aabpara Islamabad, to mark my protest against the elements ( ISI) my ex department which cut the whole nation into a sorry figure”, Former ISI Chief , Lt General ( retd) Hamid Gul orchestrated at a private TV Channel. The analysts believe, that the credibility of country’s supreme Intelligence Agency , ISI is aversely shaken in the eyes of the nation . The protestors at various cities are categorically demanding, to expose the real nexus between CIA and ISI and their collaboration in curbing ‘ terrorism’ in the region, which had taken roots during the Afghan War when General Akhter Abdur Rehman and General Hameed Gul were blue-eyed of CIA . “ Why ISI is supporting CIA, for what? Don’t they know that CIA operatives are working against the national interests of Pakistan? They set free a “ terrorist, spy and saboteur”, Remend Davis, who was supposed to be trialed in a military court? , Imran Khan’s outburst , noted as vehement reaction of mostly Pakistanis.

The murky game between the ISI and the CIA is over and story of Remend Davis was surfaced in the media, a day before he was going to be produced for framing criminal charges in a ‘court’. The analysts believe that, the principal protagonist, CIA agent Raymond Davis, is not only the principal beneficiary, who got away with double murder, also his family, who now have their loved one back, with the‘ love’ of CIA, whose operative is now back in business. The release made US State Department , bit relieved, which had a big stake in the whole issue. While Pakistan’s Foreign Office which was in a fix being unable to tow a particular line on the issue of immunity. The intelligentsia believed that Senator John Kerry whose efforts bore fruit , benefited Lt General Shuja Pasha, the ISI chief for one year extension and probably immunity from appearing in an American court. The GHQ has masterly played to secure or to expedite US military assistance plus lots of bucks without any further delay.

The miserable Shumaila, wife of Faheem who committed suicide, stood no where , rather her mother was arrested , for staging protest demonstrations with her relatives , against the release of Remend Davis , in the city of Provincial Minister Rana Sana Ullah , who brokered the final deal in the jail . The public , which was expecting an honorable and fair decision from the court, has to face worst humiliation since the creation of Pakistan. Similar humiliation is observed from the faces of the media tycoons, which played in the hands of “powers that be” and knowingly or unknowingly created hype in the name of “national honor”. The nation failed to return to normalcy from sudden shock. The poor former Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Quresh, felt himself as ‘dwarf’ of Gulliver’s Travels, in front a CIA agent, even not a CIA officer. He is looking towards Aabpara Chowk (now becomes a protest place in Islamabad) rather than his own Government for a policy stand. Presently he stands nowhere, as he lost ‘credibility of loyalty’, in the eyes of all big wigs of PPPP.

USA responded the ‘ good will’ gesture of Pakistani court and security agencies, with four missile drone attacks on a peaceful gathering ‘ jirga’ in which more than 80 innocent tribesmen killed, near Miran Shah, even Remend Davis hardly reached his home to hug the loved-ones, in USA. General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiani, Pakistan's army chief strongly condemned U.S. drone attack maintained that "It is highly regrettable that a jirga (meeting) of peaceful citizens including elders of the area was carelessly and callously targeted with complete disregard to human life," said Kayani in a written statement. "In complete violation of human rights, such acts of violence take us away from our objective of elimination of terrorism." The analysts believe that it was not the first drone attack , in which innocent Pakistani killed , Kiani’s harsh reaction might be the outcome of public response towards Army and ISI , in the release of Remend Davis in collaboration with CIA.
The U.S. has repeatedly pressed Kayani to launch an offensive against militants in North Waziristan, but he has refused, saying his soldiers are stretched too thin by operations in other parts of the tribal region.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Friday(18 March) summoned the US ambassador Cameron Munter and lodged a strong protest over a drone strike in a tribal region Miran Shah. US Ambassador was told “that such strikes were not only unacceptable but also constituted a flagrant violation of humanitarian norms and law,” The subject attack was the most lethal drone strike to hit the lawless region of North Waziristan since August 2008 when the covert campaign escalated in the areas bordering Afghanistan, and the seventh such attack in nine days.
Former Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi maintained “ the time had come to expose the rotten eggs within the PPP, while speaking to ‘Meet The Press’(18 March) in Lahore, Qureshi called on Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to take the people of Pakistan into confidence and tell them the truth about the Remend Davis case. He said that the PM should call a meeting of the parliamentary party of PPP and other coalition parties and keep all the facts before them. He said that this meeting should take place before the president’s address on March 22.
Qureshi said that after the release of Remend Davis, the US drone attack in North Waziristan was a gift to the Pakistani nation. He said that the manner in which the Davis case was resolved internationally gave the message that Pakistanis can be purchased at will. He said that the people of Pakistan want change in the manner in which national affairs are being run.

While, Thousands of people took to the streets across Pakistan on Friday to protest a US drone strike that killed 80 people this week and the release of a CIA contractor. Security was tightened and the US embassy in Islamabad and its consulates in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar were closed in anticipation of public anger, but fears of violence proved unfounded with fewer demonstrators than expected. Some 4,000 people rallied outside Islamabad’s Red Mosque against the release of Remend Davis.

The protesters chanted “Friends of the US are traitors”, “Down with America” and “Hang Zardari”, a reference to unpopular President Asif Ali Zardari who has called for ties with the United States to be maintained.
More than 1,500 people rallied in the eastern cultural hub of Lahore, including demonstrators from the religious Jamaat-e-Islami party and outlawed religious party Jamaat-ud-Dawa, and from the party headed by cricket hero turned politician Imran Khan. They burned US flags, chanting “Go America, go” and “Go Zardari, go,”.
The intelligentsia in Islamabad believed, that the Pakistani Nation, is shocked by the alleged conspiracy hatched by all the four organs of the state, placed them in a state of “Awe and Shock”, a strategy which was not succeeded in Iraq , in a true letter and spirit by USA, became successful in Pakistan, without any ‘military operation’ . The situation seemed to be very tense in Islamabad and rest of the country, as already deprived nation, compressed under new taxes by President Zardari and unprecedented price-hike. The opposition parties , especially Tehreek e Insaf and JI , which mustered enough support to fight in the streets, may pose serious threats to the existence of, becoming rapidly unpopular, both provincial and federal governments. Meanwhile, President Obama must realize this fact, that, the growing hatred in any country against USA may cause serious threat to the national security and integrity to his country, in the future.

Spy who Hates Me

In the modern world, the diplomacy is termed as the art and practice of conducting negotiations between representatives of groups or states. It usually refers to international diplomacy, the conduct of international relations through the intercession of professional diplomats with regard to issues of peace-making, trade, war, economics, culture, environment and human rights. International treaties are usually negotiated by diplomats prior to endorsement by national politicians. In an informal or social sense, diplomacy is the employment of tact to gain strategic advantage or to find mutually acceptable solutions to a common challenge, one set of tools being the phrasing of statements in a non-confrontational or polite manner. Unfortunately , the term diplomacy , as orchestrated by the Capitol Hill , almost opposite to it , there are glaring examples of double standards ie vociferously supports the democracy and democratic traditions, but practically aiding , financially and morally, to the dictators , semi- kingships and monarchy for its own vested interests. Theodore Parker (Lexington, Massachusetts, August 24, 1810 – Florence, Italy, May 10, 1860) was an American Transcendentalist and reforming minister of the Unitarian church. A reformer and abolitionist, his own words and quotes he popularized would later influence Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. He maintains “that America is a rebellious nation. Our whole history is treason; our blood was attained before we were born; our creeds were infidelity to the mother church; our constitution treason to our fatherland.” But present successive US presidents have failed to visualize the in-depth reality that any nation can become rebellious, if it is forced to lay in a closed street corner.

Americans demonstrated different standards for diverse or similar situations. Sovereignty of any country is the most important factor of nationalism, which is, to strengthen, its integrity and solidarity, within the territorial limits.

The American Judicial System was also exposed, when innocent Dr Aafia Siddiqui was sentenced to 85 years, unprecedented punishment by a local court , just as she tried to snatch a heavy automatic gun from 5 US Marine Commandos in Afghanistan. While the , President Obama and his aides jolted the politicians of Pakistan, by threatening, of dire consequences event Pakistani government failed to release the murderer, Raymond Davis, a CIA agent, under an illogical and illegal ‘blanket diplomatic immunity’.

In a dramatic move, the former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi , in a press conference, maintained that the US employee, Raymond Davis doesn't enjoy blanket immunity as sought by USA. 'Pakistan and America need each other's help.' The issue of killing two Pakistani citizens in Lahore in broad daylight by a US embassy employee has become a matter of national respect, he added. Qureshi said that I was instructed to stay quit on the burning issue. Shah Mehmood Qureshi , mastered the immediate applause of common Pakistani and termed as a hero in the whole scenario, probably he may rethink to devise his political strategy, too.

The Case of Raymond Davis, is worst of its kind when, evidently, a CIA agent killed two innocent Pakistani, in a crowded market of Lahore, the third youngster was crushed to death by a rescue car , driven by US Consulate’s driver. The driver and the car are yet to be handed over to the police. Raymond Davis, whom Washington insists has diplomatic immunity, says he acted in self-defence when he shot dead two men in a busy street in Lahore on January 27. Police also recovered sensitive maps and pictures/images from the possession of Raymond Davis. Which necessitated that a Joint interrogation Team (JIT) should have formed, under the aegis of ISI and MI, to conduct interrogation of the suspect, also to dig out his anti-state activities and his’ contacts’. It is yet to determine, on which intelligence operation, he was assigned, in that crowded area of the Lahore. Also how many such agents are operating in the sensitive areas of Pakistan, under the CIA umbrella? The national security can never be compromised, at any cost by any foreign individual, whether he or she holds diplomatic immunity or otherwise. The national security institutions must review the procedure, under which multiple visas are being issued by Pakistani Embassy in Washington DC, reportedly, most of the information are not given on the Visa forms and especially purpose of the visit of Americans to Pakistan.

In the meanwhile, Lahore High Court on last Friday remanded Raymond Davis, accused of killing two Pakistanis, in custody until February 25; he has been remanded in custody since his arrest following the incident on January 27, to decide if Raymond Davis holds diplomatic immunity.

Foreign Ministry of Pakistan and US legal counsel were supposed to make representations to the chief justice, ultimately sought three weeks time to submit the reply.

The private petitions for questioning Davis' status are filed which also aimed at stopping him from leaving the country. The judge can substantiate or decline the US claim of diplomatic immunity, or can postpone the hearing to get more time to decide. Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Ex-foreign minister, has said Davis does not have full diplomatic status, on the other hand the ministry in a statement Wednesday denied media assumption that it had already confirmed the US citizen's right of immunity.

Reacting to the hearing, US ambassador Cameron Munter said the US was “disappointed that the government of Pakistan did not certify that Raymond Davis has diplomatic immunity.” The government in Islamabad is under enormous domestic pressure not to be seen as kowtowing to US demands for Davis’ release and has come under fire over how American officials are seemingly free to drive around with loaded weapons. There are deliberate leakages in the US newspapers that USA , probably think to send Hussain Haqqani to home and impose sanctions on Pakistan and block the aid under the Kerry Lugar Bill.

“Senator Kerry’s visit to Pakistan manifested our intention to work with the government of Pakistan to resolve this issue,” said Munter”. “As the senator said during his visit, we want to work together as two countries that have a common interest in the same goal and find a path forward.” He added

The court adjourned until March 14, extending tensions between the United States and Pakistan. Raymond Davis, whom Washington insists has diplomatic immunity, says he acted in self-defence when he shot dead two men in a busy street in Lahore on January 27. “This is not a simple case. It has legal, social, political and international implications, and the government therefore wants to find a solution with consensus,” Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan said. But political analyst Hasan Askari maintained : “The longer the delay, the more difficult it will become for the government. You create room for a lot of speculation.”

Another court on Thursday remanded Davis in custody until March 3 in a separate case of illegal arms possession, the American making an appearance by video link from jail, said Punjab government prosecutor Abdul Samad. Demonstrators in Multan, the home town of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, burnt the US flag and an effigy of US Senator John Kerry, who visited Pakistan this week, to protest against pressure for Davis’ release, witnesses said. Many Pakistanis remain suspicious about why Davis, who reportedly worked for a security contractor, was carrying loaded weapons and a GPS satellite tracking device.

US authorities , continuously changing their statements, from private security personnel to technician , then an aide to US Consulate Lahore, now maintained that “he is a diplomat assigned to the US embassy, Islamabad”.
A statement on January 28 that identified him as a “staff member of the US consulate general in Lahore” was a mistake owing to the “effort to get information out”, US embassy spokeswoman Courtney Beale told journalists.
“When we checked the diplomatic note we realized that he was assigned to the embassy. We mistakenly said he was with the consulate,” Beale said. When it came to not releasing his identity, she said Davis gave them permission to use his name only after a week.

The enormous pressure of USA, was so far vehemently countered by Pakistani civil society and vibrant Media , a blessing from the blue for both the federal and provincial governments. Fauzia Wahab spokesperson of the ruling party, PPP, was sacked by PM Gillani for issuing pro-Raymond Davis statement, to pacify the resentment of the public and their wrath. The Establishment and Pakistan Army are visibly supporting the public sentiments. As per early reports some Pakistani security personnel allegedly planted two persons from Lahore, who claimed that the victims snatched their wallets and cell phones. But after few days, both were disappeared from the media and access of journalists, when the counter- pressure started emanating.

USA is sensing a different Pakistan now, whatever the decision of the court may be; the Pakistani nation now, is not ready to accept any verdict, which is against the popular feelings. Any ‘forged diplomatic document’, in support of claimed diplomatic immunity, will prove counter productive at this stage; this aspect is also clear to both President Zardari and the PM. All efforts too moo the families of the victims , by US authorities have failed , so far, primarily for the reason that the families of the victims foresee an immense reaction from the public if they accept the “diyat”, even under the Islamic law to pardon the murderer.

US Senator, John Kerry who claimed to take Raymond Davis with him at his plane , was showed the door . Senator John Kerry is considered as an intellectual too, one of his famous quotation “Our purpose now is to reclaim democracy itself. We are here to affirm that when Americans stand up and speak their minds and say America can do better, that is not a challenge to patriotism; it is the heart and soul of patriotism” He realized that now, it is a hard nut to crake, as he has to face only one reply from every corner of Pakistan… which is - the decision of the court, will determine the fate of the Spy, ‘who hates Pakistanis’’’. If America forced Pakistan to accept the verdict of the Court against Dr Aafia Siddiqui , then she has to respect the courts of other countries too. Simultaneously, the judiciary of Pakistan is pitched against a very sensitive case, where people of Pakistan, who struggled a lot for an independent judiciary, are not expecting any new “law of necessity”, in the respective case.

The political analysts believe that there is a remote possibility of Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s extradition in lieu of Raymond Davis, event he will be convicted by the court, the Zardari’s presidential immunity can be grated to him. The extradition of Dr Aafia, might reduce the intensity of the wrath against USA, which is multiplied now, in Pakistan, at the surface. There is another possibilty, that 'foreign elements'may kill or try to kill Raymond Davis , to get two benefits--To stop extraction of valuable information and secondly to put immense pressure on Pakistan. Analysts also observed that Drone attacks in bordering areas of Pakistan have ceased to exist, the day when Raymond was taken into custody. As we have witnessed that CIA, even sacrificed its top diplomat , Arnold Raphel, in the murder conspiracy of General Zia-ul-Haq. American intellectuals also believe that ‘no other country except Pakistan can rescue from the total disaster in Afghanistan and a safe exit. The Kerry- Lugar aid syndrome can be stitched to this much more important US dilemma .USA, on the other hand, must visualize the civilians’ renaissance for their fundamental rights, in the Arab world and the wave of public anger, which in fact, personifies the reaction and opposition to the US international anti-people policies in the region.

Renaissance of Civil Liberties in the Arab World

The recent happenings in African Arab World is a personification of an indigenous uprising against the dictatorial policies of the ‘semi-kingships’, which engulfs Tunisia , Egypt , Jordan, Yemen, Qatar and Syria . The popular anger forced Ali Zainul Abideen to leave Tunisia. The seeds of new awakening of civil rights in the region threatened the , even established dynasties , which have solid roots, since decades. President Hosni Mubarak, is at the verge of collapse , though all time robust Egyptian Army and Intelligence , came to his rescue for the transition power , at the surface , to save the country from going into complete chaos .

The newly installed Egyptian Government offered negotiations to the powerful opposition “Akhwan al Muslemeen’, amid Obama administration’s remarks that pro-government forces in Egypt were “thugs” . The streets of Cairo were turned into a battlefield at Tahrir Square, , for last 15 days, between those who support President Hosni Mubarak and their adversaries, who are demanding the leader’s immediate ouster.

The Egyptians are not ready to accept the assertion of Hosni Muabarak to step down in September – In the meanwhile USA has started demonstrating similar policy to leaving the ‘Closest Ally ‘ in the lurch .. In 1978 the deepening opposition to the Shah erupted in widespread demonstrations and rioting. Recognizing that even this level of violence had failed to crush the rebellion, the Shah abdicated the Peacock Throne and departed Iran on 16 January 1979. Despite decades of pervasive surveillance by SAVAK, working closely with CIA, the extent of public opposition to the Shah, and his sudden departure, came as a considerable surprise to the US intelligence community and national leadership. As late as 28 September 1978 the US Defense Intelligence Agency reported that the Shah "is expected to remain actively in power over the next ten years." In fact USA was interested to retain Shah on the throne , with certain political reforms , which became inevitable due to unprecedented and ruthless dictatorship of the King. But the public uprising and entry of Imam Khomeini wrecked the CIA future course of Action , even to that extent that USA even refused exiled Shah to enter into the air of USA, he died in Egypt . The then vice President of Egypt, Hosni Muabarak had witnessed the the gory details of Shah’s ouster and his awful death with Cancer when no world leader was ready even asylum in ‘ custody’.

The recent uprising of civilians or citizens in Arab , is, a directly outcome of the absence of any democtraic tradition in a fast changing world scenario of globalisation with additional contributing factors included perceptions of oppression, brutality, corruption, and extravagance. Basic functional failures of the regimes have also been blamed — economic bottlenecks, shortages and inflation; the Arab regimes’ flawed economic programs, the sudden failure of its security forces to deal with protest and demonstration and the overly centralized power structure, forced the the lava to erupt and expand .

The world is in the grip of economic and food crisis, the state-control medias will cannot keep a band on the common eyes , too long. The globalization process has exposed, or still exposing the cruel governance of the dictators viz a viz Western world.

The Egyptian activists, apparently young and secular at the core, who have been out on the streets every day since the Tehrer Square has become hub of violent activity. . One useful way to think about such revolutions is to remember 1989. There was the revolt in East Germany, which nobody expected to start, and then nobody expected to end peacefully. And then you had Romania, which no one expected to end in a fusillade of bullets... except the Romanians. President Nicolae Ceauşescu and her wife Elena Ceauşescu were killed by a firing squad on 25 Dec 1989.
What will happen after Hosni Mubarak ? The most famous face outside of Egypt is former IAEA head Mohamed ElBaradei, who is well-known in the West and respected, but not universally loved, at home. His efforts to unite Egypt’s opposition behind him have had mixed results, and he seems to have been free and detained at various points during the day. The Egyptian nation is not tuned to the true democratic norms or traditions of the West, in fact the nation will continue to accept the US domination with certain ease in the provision democratic rights. But USA is not ready to accept the similar happenings as she failed to control over the return of hardest religious or institutionalized Clergy to capture the power after the exit of Shah of Iran.
It is not CIA , which created rumpus against Hosni Mubarak , which, in fact took roots from the stems of dictatorial regime of Tunisia , however the analysts of Capitol Hill are spending sleepless nights to formulate a political strategy which may not hamper any peace process in the Middle East nor damage any interests of Israel in the region.

The seismic upheavals in Tunisia and Egypt have triggered unrest elsewhere in the Arab world, particularly in Yemen and Jordan. Syria, ruled by the Baath Party since 1963 and the Assad family since 1970, also seems at first glance potentially vulnerable. It shares some passing similarities with Tunisia and Egypt, particularly economic hardship – rising prices, unemployment, poverty, and the cancellation of subsidies on basic commodities.
Yet there are also critical differences, which may lessen chances of a Tunisia-style revolution taking hold. Perhaps chief among them are the sectarian divisions within Syria. Such divisions, if unleashed by protests, could cause bloodshed and chaos similar to the experiences of Lebanon and Iraq in recent years.
“The cautionary tales of its neighbors to the east and west – Iraq and Lebanon – have only reinforced Syrian anxieties about the dangers of weakening the central government in a country with a mixed sectarian and ethnic population,” says Elias Muhanna, author of the influential Qifa Nabki blog.Syria’s population is predominantly Sunni, but the backbone of the regime is drawn from the minority Alawite community, an offshoot of the Shiite sect. The marginalized Kurdish population is also a potent factor in the country’s sectarian and ethnic composition.

In Yemen, president Ali Abdullah Saleh syas he will not seek the presidency when his term expires in 2013. Saleh has been in power for 30 years. He spoke to parliament ahead of a rally in the capital on Thursday which, echoing protests in Tunisia and Egypt, has been dubbed a "day of rage".
He spoke ahead of the planned protests, organized by civil society groups and opposition leaders in a country which suffers from high population growth, 40% unemployment, rising food prices and acute levels of malnutrition. Meanwhile, in Jordan King Abdullahon on 1st Feb, entrusted Marouf Bakhit to form a new government tasked with realizing “genuine political and economic reforms”, a Jordanian Court issued a statement. Bakhit succeeded outgoing prime minister Samir Rifai whose resignation was accepted by the King three days back, the Royal Court said.

The soft revolt can be turned into violent outburst by the citizens of the Middle East , in the comparatively secular states , event the respective regimes failed to allow or facilitate their nations to give them fresh breath of political reforms and ease out checks on civil liberties and rights as given under US Charter. Things are not all the time under the control of USA, any adventurism by CIA can be proved , at the present stage, counter-productive to give way to the ‘fundamentalism’ , or hardened religious anti-American element in the corridors of the power.

Obama's Visit to India--Hype reduces by Rhetoric

The immense hype of Obama’s visit to India is reduced to some rhetoric, especially in the Indian parliament, and some good dances of both The President and First Lady Michelle Obama, at some selected spots. Obama launched his maiden trip to India , by staying at the terrorism- hit Taj Mehal Hotel at Bombay. He termed it as a symbol of his commitment to send “ strong message” to the terrorists .While Obama made no mention of Pakistani-sponsored terrorism, he demanded that the perpetrators of the 26/11 attack be brought to justice. "Mumbai is a symbol of energy and optimism," he said, adding that the Taj and its staff were "symbols of the strength and resilience of Indian people".

Obama maintained, "In our determination to give our people a future of security and prosperity, the United States and India stand united." Stating that the world will never forget the images of 26/11, including those of portions of the Taj set ablaze, he said, "Indeed, today, the United States and India are working together more closely than ever to keep our people safe. And I look forward to deepening our counter-terrorism cooperation even further when I meet with Prime Minister Singh in New Delhi. We go forward with confidence, knowing that history is on our side... And that is the shared determination of India and the United States, two partners that will never waver in our defence of our people or the democratic values that we share." Against the expectations, Obama did not mention the name of Pakistan, directly involved in the Taj attacks.

Even the Visitor’s book placed at Taj , personified formal ‘diplomatic’ and generalised remarks , “The US stands in solidarity with all of Mumbai and all of India in working to eradicate the scourge of terrorism and we offer our love and friendship," he wrote in the guest-book.

During his visit , Indian and US companies have discussed and signed over $14.9 billion in deals around President Obama’s trip that will support 53,670 US jobs, the White House said. The US export deals, estimated at $9.5 billion, won’t go far to settle America’s trade deficit, which was $46.3 billion in August alone, but the numbers are testament to India’s growing importance as a global market and have provoked a swell of pride here. The primary objective, clearly orchestrated , the weakening Obama at home, in his reply to a question , “I want to be able to say to the American people when they ask me, well, why are you spending time with India, aren’t they taking our jobs?’’ “I want to be able to say, actually, you know what, they just created 50,000 jobs. And that’s why we shouldn’t be resorting to protectionist measures. We shouldn’t be thinking that it’s just a one-way street.’’

The executive director of KPMG India, Pradeep Udhas, who is also president of the Indo-US Chamber of Commerce, said the 'deals' are significant less for their absolute value than their message. “A two-way street between the US and India has started,’’ he said. “It’s important in terms of sending out a message to US constituencies that India is not just some Third World country. It’s actually a huge market.’’India is also a growing investor in the United States. From 2004-2009, Indian companies invested over $26 billion in the United States, creating more than 55,000 jobs, according to KMPG sources.

Indian Media maintained that “For five decades after Independence, Indians looked up to the rest of the world for aid, technology, and capital. Now, the world looks upon India as a dynamic creator of jobs and income opportunities”. There is a faction of Media and analysts, who maintained, that Obama shows the weakening economic infrastructure of USA, whose title to be a “sole super power” is threatened , as more economic Super powers , like China and Japan are already capturing the world trade. The economic marriage between India and USA , is not apparently aimed at facilitating the “ the Rising India” , with latest weaponry against Pakistan, but to reduce the economic recession , prevailing in USA at various tiers, which is personified in the results of recent mid-term elections. Obama is visibly perturbed over the out-sourcing of US IT firms to India, where labor can be achieved at much lesser rates.

Though American and certain factions of Indian media observe President Barack Obama’s ‘single support’ for a permanent seat for India in an expanded UN Security Council as “a powerful endorsement” and “a major policy shift” that could aggravate China. The reports, however, point out that it may be several years before any agreement is reached on United Nations reforms, notably the overhaul of the Security Council. However the international observer are of the view that Obama’s oratory does reveal any time frame for when India would secure a permanent Security Council seat, nor does it offer any guarantee that India would secure such a seat, in the given future scenario. .” The LA Times stated, Obama’s statement signified “a dramatic show of respect to the powerful nation he hopes will play a key role in support of US interests around the world.” But it also said that the United States is backing its addition only as part of a series of UNSC reforms that could be years in the making. So far the reaction of China or Japan is not reported .According to Ashley J Tellis, the South Asia expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the US endorsement of India is stronger than the one extended to Japan some years ago.

It is pertinent to note that India remained herself away from security Council in a bid to contest the permanent seat in the SC for last 15 years . But the hurdles , as personified By foreign minister SM Krishna said recently , "There are obstacles and roadblocks. These cannot be wished away. So we have to keep pursuing relentlessly,". India is therefore aparantly convinced that it is very hard to get permanent set in UNSC, so she accepted temporary membership of UNSC , which is being commenced from 1st Jan 2011.

Since last 2o years or so. Japan has had its hopes set on a permanent UNSC President Clinton endorsed the idea of Japan and Germany joining the Council’s five permanent and veto-endowed members: the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France. A decade later, in 2005, the Bush administration made supporting Japan’s accession to a permanent Council seat . But time and again Japan has seen its hopes dashed, as a global security body that largely retains a configuration dating from its post-World War II creation finds reform bids stymied by regional suspicions, geopolitical calculations, and plain old power-mongering.

There is a debate going on ,for ceratin reforms to be brought in the Security Counci,l needs to change to reflect a 21st century of diffused power and new global players. It last saw reform in 1965, when the number of nonpermanent, non-veto-wielding seats was expanded to reflect the UN’s expanding membership in the postcolonial era. This is bound to be a very difficult process and it’s bound to take a significant amount of time. Brazil is another country which is desirous to get UNSC seat.
Obama’s speech in the Indian parliament . did not present any charge sheet against Pakistan, as expected by Indian Intelligentsia . “As we work to advance our shared prosperity, we can partner to address a second priority-our shared security”. The political and strategic analysts believed that Indians wont like the appreciation of Obama for Pakistan’s role in combating terrorism “Our strategy to disrupt, dismantle and defeat al Qaeda and its affiliates has to succeed on both sides of the border. That is why we have worked with the Pakistani government to address the threat of terrorist networks in the border region. The Pakistani government increasingly recognizes that these networks are not just a threat outside of Pakistan-they are a threat to the Pakistani people, who have suffered greatly at the hands of violent extremists”.
Obama’s dedicative statement for Pakistan, “we will continue to insist to Pakistan's leaders that terrorist safe-havens within their borders are unacceptable, and that the terrorists behind the Mumbai attacks be brought to justice. We must also recognize that all of us have and interest in both an Afghanistan and a Pakistan that is stable, prosperous and democratic-and none more so than India.”, highlighted a reserved and balanced point of view in the region, which orchestrates, Americans realize this very fact , that without the help of Pakistan , USA will never get safe exit from Afghanistan .

Funds Shortage for Pakistani Students in UK- Journalists For International Peace expresses Concern

Press Statement

Journalists For International Peace strongly reacted to the news of non-availability of funds to Pakistani students, who were admitted on government scholarship to various universities of UK. Earlier, Dr Pirzada Qasim, the Vice Chancellor of Karachi University (KU), has revealed on Wednesday, that the “ students, who were selected for foreign studies in UK on scholarships of Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan , are being humiliated enough to raise donations for meeting their educational expenses on account of lack of funds were to be provided by the commission.

“ It is pathetic and deplorable that government of Pakistan has totally ignored the “brains and future’ of the Country , Mr Iftikhar Chaudri, President of JIP , reiterated here in Islamabad. He feared the government-run HEC may have to face judicial case if it failed to pay off on time the dues meant for educational development plans.

When Dr Javed Leghari , Chairman HEC was approached , he maintained “The government of Pakistan slashed HEC’s budget from 22.50 billion rupees to 18.50 billion rupees for fiscal year 2010 in March this year but despite mounting directives issued from Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, HEC has been provided mere 11 billion rupees during period from July to December 2009”Not a single penny has been released to HEC in last quarter for 2009 fiscal year, he revealed. Earlier HEC chairman, Mr Javed Leghari was subjected to severe criticism due to exposing fake degree holder parliamentarians. Most of them are facing threats of quitting the parliament.

JIP demands that that High Commissioner of Pakistan in UK, Mr Wajid Shamsul Hassan , must immediately intervene into the situation and develop a contact with the affected students and provide immediate financial relief to them. The news of collecting donations during Friday prayers at London, to continue their studies, is highly deplorable and inhumane.
